1. Who can use TeachPal

TeachPal is intended for educators (teachers, instructors, tutors, and school administrators) who are at least 18 years old. By creating an account, you confirm you are using TeachPal in a professional educational capacity.

2. What TeachPal does

TeachPal uses the Anthropic Claude AI to assist teachers with grading, feedback generation, assignment creation, and student progress tracking. All AI-generated grades and feedback are suggestions only. You, the teacher, are responsible for reviewing and approving any grades before they are communicated to students or recorded officially.

3. Your account

• You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
• Your account is for your personal use as an educator. Do not share credentials.
• You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. All your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

4. Student data and FERPA

TeachPal is designed to be FERPA-compatible. Specifically:

• Student data you enter (names, grades, notes) is stored securely and is only accessible by you.
• We do not sell student data to any third party, ever.
• We do not use student data to train AI models.
• Student work submitted for grading is processed by Anthropic's Claude API and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models per their current policy.
• You are responsible for ensuring your use of TeachPal complies with your school or district's data policies.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use TeachPal to:

• Submit content that violates any law or regulation
• Attempt to reverse-engineer or scrape the service
• Use AI-generated grades without your own professional review and judgment
• Share student data beyond what is necessary for your professional duties

6. Service availability

TeachPal is currently in beta. We aim for high availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We may update or change features with reasonable notice. We will not delete your data without notifying you first.

7. Intellectual property

Your data belongs to you. TeachPal does not claim ownership of grades, student records, or feedback you create using the service. The TeachPal application, brand, and underlying code are owned by TeachPal.

8. Limitation of liability

TeachPal provides AI assistance as a tool to support your professional judgment -- not replace it. We are not liable for grading decisions, academic outcomes, or consequences resulting from your use of AI-generated suggestions. Always apply your own professional expertise.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before any material changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
